Now that the news media is recognizing Uncharted 3 as one of the best games of the year, you might assume that hero Nathan Drake is resting on his laurels and taking some time off to hang with Emily Rose (we don't blame him) and enjoy a couple of five-dollar footlongs. Quite the contrary, GeekOlogists! Ever the busy guy, Nathan Drake's getting ready to make his debut on the PlayStation Vita in Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and he's got some new technology to help him continue his adventures. Some of that technology is, for want of a better phrase, about to blow your mind. Eve instructed me (by example) to warn people, or even ask their permission, before blowing their minds, so consider this your advance notice.
Right, then. This is Uncharted: Golden Abyss' Intu-Aim feature. Essentially, it allows players to use the PlayStation Vita's gyro sensors to tilt-to-aim. In this video, the player uses tilt-to-aim to zoom in and adjust his crosshairs during a tense action scene. The idea here is that most people flail their controller around while they're trying to survive virtual firefights. The Vita's mechanics are designed to take advantage of that instinctive motion to provide a more intuitive experience. Really, you just have to see it in action, so here goes:
Impressive, right? And he's not even a Jedi yet. (FYI: I'd definitely be down for an Old Republic / Nathan Drake crossover. I'm all about the Vita and I think Uncharted: Golden Abyss is going to be awesome. Do you guys agree?
