Yep, The 'Phoenix Wright' Movie Still Looks Awesome

On Dec 16, 2011

I know it can be tough to keep up with the Phoenix Wright movie, since it's making its debut over in Japan--but, brother/sister, believe me when I tell you that it's completely worth it. Some ardent GeekOlogists have taken to annotating the promotional material that comes our way from the Land of the Rising Sun, so we stateside Ologists can follow the adventures of the world's bravest rookie attorney. In the latest trailer for the Ace Attorney feature film, we get a chance to see all the principal characters--from Phoenix's trusted ally, Maya, to his longtime rival Miles Edgeworth. We also get a glimpse of the overarching plot, which seems to involve the three cases from the first game--known in Japan by the same name as the movie, Gyukaten Saiban (Turnabout Trial). The courtroom is intense! Have a look:

I'm not gonna lie: Watching this trailer not only makes me wish for a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 movie (you know you want it), it also erases my lingering skepticism about video game flicks in general. Video games haven't been well-represented thus far on the big screen, but movies like this Phoenix Wright movie restore my faith that adaptations can be both faithful and actually decent. If there's anyone in this beautiful world of our who can make a great video game movie--a great Phoenix Wright movie, no less!--it's celebrated director Takashi Miike and the team he's assembled. Gyukaten Saiban releases in Japan on Feb. 11, 2012. Prepare for a legal throwdown!
