The 'South Park' RPG's Fifth Class Is... 'The Jew'

The Ology Team .
GeekOlogy

Developer Obsidian's South Park RPG, South Park: The Game sounds a lot more awesome than any tie-in game has any right to be--it's got a Materia system for weapons, multiple character classes, faction relationships... by all rights, it's a proper game, and not just a thrown-together cash-in. That said, it's also got the signature South Park touch. What do I mean by that? Well, you know how there were four announced character classes--Wizard, Adventurer, Paladin, and Rogue--with one fifth class yet to be announced? Said fifth class has just been announced, and it's... the Jew. I'll let that sink in.

I imagine that you had one of a few possible reactions to this: It's possible you LOLed. It's possible you got offended. It's even possible that, like me, you just kinda said, "Oh, snap, did they go there?" But you guys have to remember that this is a South Park RPG; if it didn't go there, there'd be no point. Now, I'm not equipped to speak about whether this was a defamatory jab, a well-intentioned gag, or what, but South Park usually knows what it's doing when it treads rough waters like these.

The Ology office, for what it's worth, initially reacted negatively to this news, but demanded to know what kind of class the Jew actually was; when I explained that it's somewhere between Paladin and Monk, with a high-risk, high-reward play style and bonuses when close to death, they acknowledged that yeah, that actually sounds pretty cool. I figure as long as the game doesn't feature negative stereotypes too prominently, this might be a legit choice for the South Park RPG. Try convincing Cartman of that, though.
