Glenn Beck Abandons Tea Party: Says Supporting Gingrich Over Obama "Must Be About Race"

On Dec 12, 2011

Former Fox News Host Glenn Beck, known for his thoughtful political analysis, has joined the chorus of Republicans lamenting the rapid rise of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and the Tea Party voter who polls have shown flocking to support his candidacy. Beck said that those voters who would support Gingrich, who Beck believes is a big government progressive, over Obama, a big government progressive, must be secretly racist."If you have a big government progressive, or a big government progressive in Obama... ask yourself this, Tea Party: is it about Obama's race? Because that's what it appears to be to me. If you're against him but you're for this guy, it must be about race. I mean, what else is it? It's the policies that matter," Glenn Beck told FOX Business host Andrew Napolitano.

Beck did, however, concede that he too would have to hold his nose and pull the lever for Gingrich if he was the Republican nominee next November - a tacit admission of his own racism I suppose.

Beck declined to note that prior to Gingrich's rise in the polls, Tea Party voters supported former CEO Herman Cain by large margins (until his abdication on foreign policy issues and appearance of having lied about one or several mistresses doomed his candidacy).

Beck's former time slot on Fox News is now occupied by a panel program called "The Five" which is already doing better than Beck towards the end of his run on the cable news channel.
