Did you guys have a Game Genie growing up? The handy little gadget was the gateway to a wonderful world of rule-breaking: In combination with the popular SNES and Genesis carts of the day, the retro device allowed players to achieve impossible feats, secure immortality, and bend virtual universes to their whims. The Genie's been sleeping (in the Game Lamp, we presume) for the past few years, and since its heyday, the place of cheat codes has changed significantly. Now, players tend to know about and unlock cheats as they progress through a game; otherwise, they read about pre-programmed cheats online or mod games at the code level to change their experiences. Nothing quite like the Game Genie has been available for some time... but that changes today.
The gadget wizards at Hyperkin (they're behind that unbelievable portable SNES, the Supaboy) have just unleashed the Game Genie from its arcane prison once again. The new device they're selling (retailing for $19.99, currently out of stock at time of press) works with all your Nintendo DS handhelds--from the 3DS all the way back to the old-school DS. The new Game Genie starts with 60,000 built-in cheats to choose from, but if that's not enough for you, you can look forward to updating your device via Wi-Fi. You can also look forward to not having to carry around that book with all the cheat codes in it! For more law-abiding players, the new Genie does have some more kosher uses, including storing saved games to be traded with friends. But realistically, you're just going to use this thing to get through Contra, aren't you?
