The song says that love is in the air. But in 2011, it seemed affairs and divorce papers flew through the sky. While we weren't surprised to see some relationships come to an end, some sent us into a state of shock. Who knew celebrities could control my emotions like that.
5. Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz

They seemed like the perfect pair. She's sort of from the country. He's sort of rock and roll. After two years of dating, the couple wed in May 2008. But having a baby wasn't enough to keep the couple together, and they filed for divorce in February 2011. Some Valentine's Day. The couple finalized their divorce in November 2011, but the debate over custody arrangements continues.
4. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

Granted, this split wasn't a total shock. When you marry someone old enough to be your mom, you're bound to stray eventually. Before rumors surfaced this summer, Moore and Kutcher seemed to be okay. After meeting in 2003, the couple dated for two years before a last-minute September ceremony. For five years, couples across the country envied these two. But once Sara Leal came into the picture everything went downhill, and Moore filed for divorce on November 17, 2011.
3. Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard

How could something adorable come to an end? When the New Girl star ended her marriage to the Death Cab for Cutie singer, people across the country wondered "what the fudge?" The couple, who married in September 2009, filed for divorce in November 2011. Both Deschanel and Gibbard say it was a mutual decision, but I think he may have been jealous of her sitcom success.
2. Olivia Wilde and Tao Ruspoli

In the world of celebrities, making it past two years is usually the sign of a successful marriage. But even those relationships can come to an end, as it did with this happy Hollywood couple. The two wed in June 2003. Fun fact: they wed in an abandoned school bus so they could be completely alone. For eight years, they managed to keep their marriage out of the spotlight. But when Wilde filed for divorce in February 2011, it became a major headline. Since then, the A-list actress has moved on to a newer, funnier man.
1. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

Looks like third time wasn't a charm for this A-list couple. J.Lo and Anthony wed in June 2004 only four days after Anthony finalized his divorce from his second wife. The two continued to rule the red carpet and the tabloids, especially when they announced their pregnancy in 2007. But babies and a multi-million dollar empire can't keep a couple together. In July 2011, the couple announced their plans to divorce. But in true J.Lo style, she didn't stay single for long and moved on to her back up dancer by November.
