You know how Minecraft is basically the ultimate digital version of LEGOs, those beloved bricks of our childhoods? (No offense, LEGO Universe!) Well, developer Mojang knows it too, and that's why they've started courting an official relationship with LEGO.
How'd they do it? They've put up a listing on the LEGO site Cuusoo, an online community where aspiring LEGO designers can connect with the manufacturers. The way Cuusoo works is pretty simple: Creative LEGO enthusiasts propose ideas for sets, which other community members can choose to "support." Once a set idea has 10,000 supporters, LEGO gives it an official review--and, should they choose to actually produce it, the folks who thought up the idea receive royalties. Mojang is planning to donate its Minecraft LEGOs royalties, should it receive any, to charity, but they're rolling right along on Cuusoo all the same, and (at time of press) they've already assembled over 2,000 supporters on the site. Head on over to add your +1 and begin trying to figure out how to re-create your Minecraft wonders with physical bricks. Punching trees may be a good start.
