Nell commented on Ology's Battle Of The Fans: '80s Semi-Finals (Duran Duran Vs. Depeche Mode):
“Duran Duran. I'm a fan of both, and have seen both perform, but it was hearing The Chauffeur live that really showed me how much a piece of music can do emotionally even when the lyrics are somewhat abstract.”
The show-and-prove rap battle grounds are always going to remain a central part of the hip-hop arena, and in a recent interview, Common sat down to drop the knowledge on who his ideal emcee battle would be between.
Here's a clip:
"I think not at a real war, but just on an MC level battle, I think two emcees who would really be a good battle would be Kanye and Lil Wayne," he said. "They both got them lines that you be like, 'Dang, that line was cold. Some real lines!' They both got style, too. I think it'd be a good battle."
I mean, Wayne in a battle, sure, but Kanye, I don't know. I've never seen him as much of a freestyle artist, nor an exceptional (in terms of the grand scheme) lyricist, but it would be an interesting one nonetheless. There's plenty more out there, so throw up who you think the best emcee battle would be between.
Common's The Dreamer, The Believer drops on December 20.
