Seth Rogen defended his Pineapple Express buddy James Franco recently when he spoke out about his 2011 Oscar duties with Anne Hathaway. Rogen told Shortlist magazine that the academy should have known who they were dealing with. They should have stuck to a script that complimented his Freaks and Geeks co-star.
He stated, "I think when you agree to do something like that, you put a certain amount of faith in the institution, hoping that they'll take care of you, and I feel like they didn't. Why hire James Franco and then give him Billy Crystal's monologue? It was like, 'Oh, we'll hire these young hosts and then we'll just do the same sh*t we do every f*cking year.'"
One should give props to Seth for speaking out on the matter. The live show in 2011 just seemed a bit off. Just because you put James and another A-list young actress together to co-host doesn't mean high ratings. He continued, "I think they just approached it wrong. They didn't think it through, and they were way underprepared. I think they hung him out to dry. So I wouldn't do it unless they hired some better writers."
Luckily for him, Billy Crystal is the one that they hired for this upcoming show. As for Seth to be asked sometime in the future himself? The Academy will probably say no after reading his comments.
