The Billboard charts have become a joke in some ways ever since Internet piracy took control of true album "sales" numbers, but, regardless, they're a viable source on who's the heat of the moment. However, things are going to flip a bit due to Lady Gaga's shenanigans earlier this year when she sold her motorcycle face album for only a dollar, thus launching her to the statistical top spot.
So it goes, Billboard will now be enforcing a new rule that requires an album to sell for at least $3.50 to qualify for their chart consideration. I'm figuring that the labels are behind this one looking to make some extra cash, since, you know, $2.50 will be drastically more income, but whatever. It is kind of bullsh*t to drop your price just to snag the top spot (Oh, but Lady Gaga didn't do that on purpose, right?) Whatever. None of this really matters. We all know you're going to still download your music illegally.
