This is fantastic news. Diablo Cody has announced that a Sweet Valley High film is in the works. Cody is the perfect choice, let me emphasize, DIABLO CODY IS THE PERFECT CHOICE, to write this script.

I used to hate Cody. After her Academy Award win she took to her blog and got a little snarky towards my alma mater -- NYU Dramatic Writing. But I forgave her when I started watching Red Band Trailer and seeing her on interviews. She seems like a cool chick and I'm sure she didn't mean to offend me personally.
But enough of this personalized diatribe. Diablo Cody is on her Young Adult press tour (check back at Ology.com for more of that!). Then she started to talk about plans for Sweet Valley High. She tells IndieWire (via HuffPo): "I want it to be wonderfully nostalgic. I want it to be to the '80s what American Graffiti was to the [early] '60s." Cody goes on to talk about the one of the film as a feast for the senses.
So to anyone who used to read the Sweet Valley High series, this is great news. I think Cody really has a grasp on what the project should be and I cannot wait to find out about the casting.
