I suppose announcing that you’re breaking up after 31 years means you don’t get much of a budget to make music videos. I’m giving R.E.M. the benefit of the doubt that’s what happened—check out an extremely stark pair of black and white music videos for the band’s final single "We All Go Back To Where We Belong", one of three new songs on the forthcoming Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage 1982- 2011 compilation (out Nov. 15).
They don’t make R.E.M. fans more die-hard than me… but c’mon, seriously? This is how directors Michael Stipe and Dominic DeJoseph decided to visually interpret what’ll most likely be the last new R.E.M. song ever recorded? Kirsten Dunst smiling/frowning? Poet John Giorno undressing me with his eyes? I dunno—maybe it really was time for R.E.M. to hang up its proverbial hat.
What do you guys think of these two new videos—excuse me, "short films"? Hit up our comments section below.
