The members of Metallica have been pretty adamant that Lulu, their fiercely lambasted new album with Lou Reed, is just a creative dalliance and not the proper follow-up to Death Magnetic. Which is convenient, because: 1.) Lulu is terrible, and 2.) it’s not very Metallica-esque.

Yes, I’m still trying to wash the sour taste of those Lulu tracks out of my proverbial mouth, but according to bassist Rob Trujillo, it might not be long before the next "real" Metallica record hits playlists and record store shelves.
"We've got a couple of new songs we have been working on the past couple of weeks," Trujillo tells GulfNews.com, "The writing process for the new Metallica album has begun. We've been in the studio with Rick Rubin, working on a couple of things, and we're going to be recording during the most of next year." (via NME.com)
I know, "next year" feels like a long ways away, but try to think about it in "Metallica years"… we’ll have a new album before you know it.
