Mario's often overlooked brother Luigi basically invented ghost protocol in the beloved GameCube game Luigi's Mansion. In the launch title, Luigi wins a mansion in a contest he never entered, only to discover that the place is haunted and that Mario's trapped inside. The only way for Luigi to free Nintendo's iconic hero is to grab a vacuum cleaner and a Game Boy and go to town on the restless spirits. I don't know who thought "Luigi fighting ghosts with a household appliance" would make for a great GameCube launch title, but that person was right.
I do know who thought that Luigi's Mansion would make a great horror movie, though. That person was YouTube's own SAXjewell, and that person was also right. This fake trailer for Luigi's Mansion: The Movie has everything you'd want in a big screen adaptation: Scary ghost effects, mushroom hats, and fake mustaches. I don't know whether the Mario universe will ever, ever get old. Check out this glorious bit of "what-if" trailer action and remember the good old days, when men were brave and ghosts were purple.
Is Luigi cooler than Mario? Discuss.
