Apple Releases iOS 5, All Is Right With The World

Praise be to Steve Jobs. I’m gonna preface all my Apple-related news pieces with that statement from now on. After all, he is indeed Jesus and must be hailed as such.

Today saw the incredible release of Apple’s iOS 5 operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and while I can’t exactly give a professional Engadget review, I can describe it to you the best way that I know how: iOS 5 is better than sex with Rihanna in a fluffy strawberry field on top of a cloud in Heaventown. Twice.

Over 200 new features flood the new iOS 5 software, from the small and minute (Message bubbles have changed from blue to green, you guys!) to the pretty big deals: the Notifications app lets you see all of your incoming e-mails and messages as well as calendar appointments, real-time weather stats, stock updates, and any notification coming from any third parties at a glance. The new Newsstand allows you to download and swipe through your favorite magazines (although no big American mags seemed to have signed onto the deal as of yet) and read them on a device as small as your iPod. A new Reminders app keeps your to-do list in check- you can even set your tasks to notify you based on your location (for example, passing the grocery store may tell your phone to remind you to pick up bread and milk!)

And the biggest update of all? Everything on your device can be backed up to iCloud, where it can also be pushed to your other Apple devices and synced wirelessly. This is a fantastic update to an already great operating system. Is that an official review? No, but get your hands on it and see if you don’t agree!

What do you think of the new iOS 5? Let us know in the comments.
