What is it about soccer that makes it a magnet for madness?
It seems like every time we post a video having to do with weird sports-related hijinks, it's a soccer video.
This one comes to us direct from the Iberian Peninsula, where a recent match between La Liga powerhouses (it's all relative, you guys) Granada and Valencia was marred by an instance of undue interference from the referee.
The play came as Valencia mounted a promising attack, with young midfielder Sergio Canales receiving the ball at his feet from about 10 yards outside the box. Referee Eduardo Gonzalez, who was right on top of the play, slipped and ended up right on his keister and directly in the path of Canales.
Canales took a tumble and the ball squirted away and into Granada's posession, though they were unable to capitalize on their good fortune, and ended up losing 1-0.
The whole thing is a pretty ugly example of "the beautiful game", but I will say that the Ref's form on the tackle was perfect. Two feet out, all ball, takes his man out of the play.
Picture perfect.
