The Halo series is an icon of modern gaming--as one of the world's foremost sci-fi shooters, Halo has helped to shape dominant trends in both game design and aesthetics for nearly a decade. A pillar of competitive gaming worldwide and a fan favorite since its 2001 release, Halo is among the most recognizable games of the recent console generation; it only makes sense that Hollywood wants to adapt the series to the big screen. A Halo movie has the potential to delight legions of ready-made audience members. The tough part is doing it right--video game Ologists tend to be passionate enthusiasts, and the Halo community will be unwilling to accept a generic action movie with a coat of Halo paint. Many fear that a Halo movie would botch the world and feel of the games--but recent rumors may indicate a reason to hold out hope.
Halo.fr has just revealed a press release for the French version of the tie-in novel Halo: Cryptum, which packs some interesting info. Apparently, the blurb references a DreamWorks Halo movie that's also a Steven Spielberg joint. Huh! Now, we'd heard a while back that DreamWorks wanted to adapt the Halo novels, rather than the games, to avoid the high expenses that doomed previous efforts to give Halo the movie treatment. That word of their project arrives via a novel blurb lends credence to these rumors. Will we be seeing a Halo movie anytime soon? This looks like a good sign.
Here's the blurb in question, in case you're up on your French:

So, yeah! Halo movie... maybe. Thoughts?
