Dan Harmon's 'Community' Rape Joke Really Isn't Going Over Well
God dammit, rape jokes: will a quip that even nudges the idea of sadistic sex-driven violence ever be socially acceptable? Because, apparently Community creator Dan Harmon though that savage imagery was perfectly likable to what it felt like for him to watch an entire season of his show after vacating the job of Executive Producer, and rape evokes feelings just like feelings evoke rape. The actual quote is that his viewing of the NBC comedy's fourth year was like "being held down and watching your family get raped on a beach," which is only odd because I don't know much about beach rape, nor why the completely innocent beach was relevant, but what happened next is sadly typical: the rest of America was like, "um, no." Well, in a Tumblr post that's totally worth your TL;DR, Harmon has ...

The Office Recap: Season 8, Episode 1 "The List" (09/22/2011)

Oh, man. This is going to be rough, but here we go...

So, Michael is gone. I can go on and on about how this totally ruins the show, but we all know that. Michael Gary Scott is no more. Well, in Scranton anyway.

Robert California (James Spader) is officially the new CEO. He talked Kathy Bates (or whatever her character's name was) out of her job. Mmm... eh, OK. I'll go with it.

The new branch manager is been announced! And no, they already tried Jim and Dwight, so they go with Andy Bernard! Personally, I am in love with Ed Helms and his character, so I'm a little excited. And to my surprise, he balances his inherent selfishness with his need to please everyone pretty well. Just like Michael. It's endearing. Trying to get everyone a half day for Columbus Day is cute (and totally unnecessary). But I kinda like it.

Pam is preggers. Again. Well actually, Jenna Fischer is pregnant and they didn't feel like hiding it. Remember when Angela was pregnant and they had to hide her belly every episode? Lame. Speaking of... Angela is pregnant too! With the gay senator. Psh, anyone else think it's Dwight's baby? Or are we supposed to assume that anyway?

Stanley's "shove it up your butt" bit is exactly what he says. Stupid. Yet still f*cking funny. I don't know why.

Everyone finds Robert's notebook with a list of everyone's names in a random order. Some names are on the right and some on the left, and know one knows what the hell that means. The rest of the episode leaves the office workers dying over it. Eventually, Robert comes forward to say that he divided the losers and the winners. Andy sticks up for his employees (that's weird to say) and they appreciate it.

SumOlogy: I didn't hate it. But I wanted to. Is that weird?

Grade: 7/10

Leftovers:

The planking cold open? Eh, a little old but OK.

"Kids, don't try planking. It's dangerous. Especially with me around." -Dwight

"Kind of a medium year for women's soccer, no?" -Andy

At least Pam acknowledges how annoying she's become over the years.

"WARNING. WARNING. WARNING." -Kevin

"Who would eat who in an Alive situation? No..." -Dwight

"Maybe we're supposed to do it with people in our group." -Meredith

"The thing I like about Elmo is the tickling." -Kevin
"I should not be here." -Toby

"Jim, shut the door. This is just gross." -Dwight

Jim. Adorable. More. Please.
