You know what's annoying? When a reality star suddenly shoots to "fame" after he world sees them lying face-down and getting f*cked by Ray J while they made weird yelping noises and they think this somehow makes them qualified enough to design clothing lines and create perfumes and generally skip all of the necessary education and unpaid intern experience that usually comes with said privileges.
The good news is, Lauren Conrad is nothing like that — though, yes, LC became a household name because of Laguna Beach and then The Hills, and yes, she did turn down a trip to Paris Fashion Week so she could stay with her deadbeat, rehab-bound boyfriend, (and no, she did not deserve that Forbes column) but the girl went to college, took an unpaid internship and did can now boast a bit of technical training in her field. Other reality stars, not so much.
So while it would usually infuriate me to hear news of a new celebrity beauty line, I feel like Lauren Conrad's is one that I can probably get behind.
“Right now, one of my main objectives is to expand TheBeautyDepartment.com into a product line,” she wrote on Forbes.com this week in her final guest post. “I am currently researching all of my options, but should begin the process of executing an actual line very soon — stay tuned!”
LC's website, which is a joint endeavor with her hairstylist Kristin Ess and her makeup artist Amy Nadine, has been wildly successful thanks to its user-friendly, simple how-to videos, so the extension into beauty products was probably the natural progression of her brand. Do you think Lauren is qualified enough to create her own line of beauty products? Would you buy anything from her line?
