Ology was on the scene when we first heard about Ben & Jerry's new Saturday Night Live-themed flavor "Schweddy Balls." The ice cream, which appears to be a delicious mix of vanilla ice cream, rum, fudge covered rum balls, and milk chocolate malt balls, has only been out for a few weeks and is already stirring up trouble. One Million Moms, a group associated with The American Family Council, has called for a boycott of the new ice cream because of its "vulgar" name. OMM actually has a history of taking offense to ice cream, as they also complained about the Ben & Jerry's special edition "Hubby Hubby" flavor that supported gay marriage.
Just in case you are unfamiliar with the skit:
Something tells me that "Schweddy Balls" will continue to be eaten up by the ice cream loving public, probably because of the so-called "vulgar" name. It's also interesting that, while referencing a classic SNL skit is offense, they have no problem with drug-themed entires like "Half Baked" or "Magic Brownies," not to mention horrible puns like "Chocowlate Chip." I, for one, will go find a pair of "Schweddy Balls" right now, just to show those mothers that I don't care about their boycott. Also, I want some ice cream.
