When it comes to new releases from Blizzard, you pretty much know what to expect: Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo. Not that there's any problem with that. Each new release of those franchises has been a blockbuster hit, generally receiving accolades from both critics and players. The real question with each new Blizzard release isn't what it will be about or whether it will be good, it's when will they actually let us play the damn thing. That's where Activision COO Thomas Tippl comes in.
At the 2011 Citi Technology Conference this weekend, Tippl revealed that Blizzard will release six games in its "proven properties" before 2014. Those games will include two World of Warcraft expansions, the final two parts of the Starcraft II Trilogy, as well as Diablo III and the first Diablo III expansion. While that may seem like vague info and a large timeframe, it's better than what Blizzard usually gives us, which is a whole lot of "Soon (TM)."
The announcement was carefully worded to avoid giving anything away about Blizzard's new MMO project, Titan, which has been rumored to be released in 2013. However, it's nice to know that Blizzard still has plans for WoW even though they are working on a new massively multiplayer game. This release schedule would have Blizzard releasing WoW content through the game's 10th anniversary.
