Newcomer John Boyega, best known from the excellent Attack The Block, has been cast as the young Mike Tyson (more or less) in HBO's upcoming boxing drama Da Brick, "a contemporary
exploration of what it means to be a young, black man in supposedly
post-racial America." The series is executive produced by Tyson, Entourage producer Doug Ellin and filmmaker Spike Lee.
Boyega will play Donnie, the lead in the ensemble, released from a juvie facility on his 18th birthday. He finds boxing as he's trying to re-adjust to life as a free man in modern-day Newark, NJ. Wow, this is almost the same plot as T.I.'s new show.

It will be set in modern-day Newark, NJ, which is nicknamed
"Brick City" (hence the title). Ellin describes Da Brick as "an edgy story about an up-and-coming boxer and his crew that is much more dramatic than Entourage." Fellow HBO alum Lee, was brought in for additional development.
Is Boyega a good choice?
