Watch This: Don Cheadle Is Captain Planet

The Ology Team .
GeekOlogy

So let's get one thing straight, here: Don Cheadle is not Jon Hamm. (Apologies if that previous statement just ruined your experience with Mad Men and/or Crash). Yet these two respected actors are now kind of sharing a role. See, Jon Hamm was cast as Captain Planet in the post we wrote on the upcoming Captain Planet live-action movie, and he continues to play the role in our feverish fanboy dreams. But now Don Cheadle is Captain Planet in a Funny or Die sketch featuring some pretty famous Planeteers. We imagine Hamm's Captain as an imposing yet caring hero, not unlike a cross between comic-book Superman (circa All-Star Superman, perhaps?) and Brett Warner. Funny or Die, on the other hand, envisions Cheadle's Cap as a psychotic god-figure who takes pleasure in transforming lowly mortals into various types of plants. Behold!

That's Community's Gillian Jacobs as Linka, the Wind-powered Planeteer from the Soviet Union Eastern Europe. Alongside her is Brenda Song as Gi. I'd definitely support both Jacobs and Song returning for the real deal on the big screen.

All right, pop quiz. Name as many Captain Planet villains as you can in the comments. NO GOOGLING, SMARTASS.
