Probably my favorite moment in the X-Men movies is when Iceman "comes out" as a mutant to his parents, and they helpfully suggest, "Have you tried... not being a mutant?" Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Iceman, you guys are so quaint. Turns out what you should've asked was, "Have you tried being a different kind of mutant?"
X-Men Destiny, the upcoming mutant action game from Silicon Knights and Activision, apparently grants its trio of main characters significant control over their own mutant development. In addition to choosing their allegiance--either X-Men or Brotherhood--our heroes (and heroine!) can develop at least three distinctive mutant powers. The latest trailer for the game shows off each of the three playable characters using the featured power sets: energy projection, density control and shadow matter. I'm a density control/Aimi Yoshida kinda guy, but you may find yourself drawn to one of the other available gifts/curses, or to another of the young mutants. Watch and decide--the choice, as always, is yours:
I'm pretty psyched for this game--it looks like it hews pretty close to the inFAMOUS/Prototype model of superheroics. I'm in. Set me up with some edgy Iron Age comic book outfit and I'm good to go.
