If a genie sprang from the Ology coffee maker and offered me a single video game-related wish, and stipulated that I couldn't ask for a working portal gun, I'd probably wish for the instant release of The Secret World. I don't know what it is about this game that's captured my heart so completely--I think it's a combination of the open skill system and the urban-supernatural vibe of the game world. Whatever it is, I'm a Secret World fan waiting to happen, and that's why I'm psyched to tell you that Funcom's given the game a more specific release window. Though we don't have an official release date yet, we do have a ballpark estimate: The game's slated to arrive in April 2011.
Funcom's also informed us that beta invites will start going out on August 26th as part of an interactive social media campaign, so keep your eyes peeled for trailheads, secrets, and clues across various social platforms.
Here's the trailer that accompanies this announcement. Tarantino standoff? In my MMO? IT'S MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK. Sadly, no Alex Mack this time around, but I still have faith.
Templars FTW, by the way. Are you guys anywhere near as excited for this as I am?
