I apologize, my friends, but I have no choice but to begin this post with a fanboy wail:
ALHPAAAAAA CENTAURIIIIIIIII!
All right, now that that's out of the way, let's make with the ologizing. The Speculatron, as you may know, is an infernal machine from the prehistoric past, the only purpose of which is the transformation of raw unconfirmite into readable Ology posts. Today, the Speculatron has disgorged perhaps its greatest treasure yet--a rumor that Sid Meier's space-based, turn-based, awesome-based strategy PC game, Alpha Centauri, may be revived by Electronic Arts. EA's just filed two trademarks for Alpha Centauri. The first trademark is for computer game software, while the second is for "entertainment services, namely, providing an online computer game." That last bit has some AC diehards worried--it's a possible signal that EA's just planning to put the original game up its Origin service rather than come up with something new. That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, of course, but it'd be a far cry from the reboot/revamp/update that this game desperately deserves. With all the fun of Civilization transposed to a brilliantly detailed sci-fi setting, Alpha Centauri is head, shoulders, face-tentacles above its competitors.
Let's hope this means Sid's space oddity is coming back for another go-round!
