Are your friends all, 'Hey, Attractive McHotFace! You should totally play StarCraft II!" And then are you all, "But I have so many beautiful people things I have to do! Plus I don't have a ton of money because I donated most of it to help orphaned Zerglings!" Have you ever wondered: Is there a way to get just a little taste of the spacefaring strategy action in StarCraft II without paying a dime?
Well, yes. Yes, there is. And there always has been. The StarCraft II demo was always a decent glimpse into the war-torn Koprulu Sector, but a recent update from Blizzard has transformed it into an even more helpful introduction to the game. Now, like World of Warcraft's free-to-play version, StarCraft II has rolled out a 'Starter Edition' granting Battle.net members access to the game's first chunk of content free of charge.
What's included in this Starter Edition? The first four missions of the Terran campaign, Wings of Liberty, are accessible to all who download the game client. In addition, two challenges and four custom maps await demo downloaders with a taste for more intense gameplay. Starter players will also be able to play single-player vs. AI maps and custom games, but they'll only have access to the Terran race.
This is a nice little bundle to get more players interested in the game. If you pick up the Starter Edition, finish the available missions, and decide to grab StarCraft II proper, you'll be able to pick up right where you left off, as your achievements are stored on Battle.net. SCIi holdouts, will this latest recruiting drive change your mind?
