Look, GeekOlogy, I like a good KitKat bar as much as the next guy. Probably more than the next guy, actually, unless the next guy is a kid on Halloween or something. But even I have to admit that Japanese candy is way, way better--or at least, way more creative--than American candy. Look at it this way: The design philosophy for most confections available stateside is: Find a chocolate thing, put an interesting/sugary thing inside it, throw a wrapper on, bada bing bada boom. The design philosophy for Japanese candy, by contrast, is do whatever the heck you want and let the haters hate.
We at GeekOlogy support this, and that's why we support the efforts of Bemmu Sepponen. See? It's not just because his name is awesome. Bemmu's just moved to Japan to continue his business pursuits and he's fallen in love with the local candy, and now he wants you to fall in love with it, too. To that end, he's started Candy Japan, a subscription service that will deliver an envelope full of quirky Japanese candy to your doorstep twice a month. The service costs $23.95, which includes shipping, and promises all manner of goodies. Check it out if you want a taste of Japan in your life!
Here's a video that showcases some of the treats on offer:
Looks good!
