Alex Trebek made a dramatic entrance at the National Geographic World Championship today. The 71-year-old Jeopardy host arrived on crutches after chasing down a burglar. NBD.
According to the New York Post, Alex revealed to the competition guests that he encountered a burglar at 2:30am on Wednesday at the San Francisco hotel where he was staying. After chasing down the crook, he snapped his Achilles tendon and injured his other leg. The game show all star says that he's alright despite his injuries.
We have no idea why Alex was lurking around the hotel at 2:30am chasing down criminals, but we're definitely interested. And who knew Alex Trebek was 71?
Thoughts or theories? Does Alex Trebek moonlight as a senior citizen vigilante?
*UPDATE (7/28/11):
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the game show host was chasing down a female burglar who entered his room and "stole cash and a bracelet from his mother, among other items, and then hid them near an ice machine on Trebek's floor."
Police found the burglar--a 56-year-old white woman--and charged her with felony burglary and possession of stolen property.
Trebek's fans took to Twitter to express their admiration. Nikeblog.com tweeted, "What is #baller for $1000?" and VancouverSun tweeted, "With apologies to Chuck Norris facts - giraffes did not exist until Alex Trebek uppercut a donkey." I think America has a new hero.
