Nell commented on Ology's Battle Of The Fans: '80s Semi-Finals (Duran Duran Vs. Depeche Mode):
“Duran Duran. I'm a fan of both, and have seen both perform, but it was hearing The Chauffeur live that really showed me how much a piece of music can do emotionally even when the lyrics are somewhat abstract.”
When The Who’s lead vocalist Roger Daltrey spoke to Rolling Stone last month about his solo Tommy tour without Pete Townshend, Daltrey blamed the songwriter/guitarist’s absence on his well-known hearing damage. "Pete is having terrible hearing problems at the moment," said Daltrey, "I don't want to be on stage with him destroying the last bit of his hearing. That would be completely foolish.”
Well, Townshend was quick to reply on his official blog, denouncing his bandmate’s claim by insisting: "The reason I am not on the road with Roger is that this is entirely Roger's adventure, one that is bringing him great joy… I don't belong on this Tommy tour. I wish him well, sincerely, and I look forward to playing with Roger again doing Quadrophenia next year."
Whoa, what?
That’s right—the two surviving members of the iconic ‘60s rock quartet (drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle passed away in 1978 and 2002, respectively) will hit the road together to perform the band’s 1973 double-album rock opera Quadrophenia in its entirety. Initially too complex to perform onstage due to its extensive and often disastrous reliance on backing tracks, The Who revived Quardrophenia during their 1996 reunion tour, and once again in 2010 during a charity performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Townshend also let slip that he’s working on a deluxe-edition remaster of the album with a crew of engineers to help “clean up the high frequencies” out of his hearing range.
