It seems like everyone and their brother has already covered Adele’s super-ridiculous smash hit “Rolling In The Deep”, but punk/poetess Patti Smith felt the urge to throw her two cents in during a gig at New York’s Castle Clinton last week.
For an (assumedly) off-the-cuff, Patti Smith does the tune a great amount of justice. What she lacks in vocal pizzazz, Smith makes up for with decades of experience and a winking sense of humor about the whole thing. Probably nothing to freak out about, but it’s a nice moment from one of the true living rock n’ roll legends.
Smith hasn’t shied away from covering other people’s tunes in the past few years—her 2007 album Twelve was a collection of cover tunes ranging from Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix to R.E.M. and Tears For Fears.
