Barry's birthday will be here before you know it. August 4th for those who are curious. And when it arrives, oh, will it arrive.
The president has quite the party planned. To be honest, it's an all out star-studded affair, in Chicago terms that is. Obama has booked the historic Aragon Ballroom for August 3rd and called on fellow Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson to perform. Only thing, this 50th birthday celebration comes with quite the price, as in up to $35,800 per couple to attend.
See, what Obama really wants for his birthday is, well, campaign contributions. After all, the 2012 election is what will really be here before you know it. Now since Obama managed to raise $750million in 2008, he'd like to match that, or if he's lucky, exceed it. So to do this, he's put some high rollers in the invite list, planned out a VIP section and has Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Obama 2012 campaign chairman Jim Messina hosting the event.
So if still interested in attending, here's what you're looking:
$50 = Entry to the celebrity concert
$1000 = Concert plus Premium seating with a hosted bar
$10,000 = 'Preferred' seating at the concert and a souvenir photo with Obama
As it looks now, Obama has raised a combined $86million for his re-election campaign and the Democratic Party during the past three months. That comes out to a hell of a lot more Republican candidates, who have collectively raised just $35million so far.
And not to put a damper on the fun, but the government debt ceiling default deadline is August 2nd.
