'Animal Farm' Remake with Andy Serkis

Film and TV Editor
On Jul 07, 2011

You may know Andy Serkis from his portrayal as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogies.  He was also in 13 Going on 30, which is a movie I am ashamed to say I've seen more than zero times (it's probably somewhere around 5).  Apparently Serkis is a fan of George Orwell, because he plans on working on an adaptation of Animal Farm.

More adaptation news here

Serkis is teaming up wtih Rupert Wyatt- the director of the upcoming Rise of the Planet of the Apes- to make a performance captured Animal Farm.  This means that it's going to be almost as creepy as that other Animal Farm movie.  Lest you forget...

I don't know if you ever got the chance to read Animal Farm in school.  If you didn't, you should seriously go out and read it now, although don't be afraid to pick up a reading companion piece explaining all the ins and outs of the history of communism.  Is that a spoiler alert?  Yeah, Animal Farm is not really about a farm per se, but about communism.  So there ya go.

Anyway, they tried to make an Animal Farm movie before (trailer above) and it was the most horrific thing I've ever seen in my life.  I think they intended to make a movie for children, because, you know, talking animals, and parents that didn't know any better took their kids to see it.  Now, for those children, pigs will never be the same.  Snowball haunts their dreams.

Who knows of Serkis and Wyatt will do the book justice.  I hope in the very least they will keep the creep factor to a minimum.

I'm just tearing up thinking of Boxer.
