It was only a matter of time, Geekologists, before another city stepped up its game in response to N SKY C, which is a site that documents the average color of the sky over New York every five minutes, and which is most certainly not a boy band, to the great disappointment of the world. I mean, to be perfectly fair, we had it comin'. Thing was, I wasn't sure who would challenge New York's celestial supremacy: The artsy folks over in Portland? The spirited locals of mighty Boston? The swanktacular residents of L.A.?
Realistically, though, only one city would dare challenge New York's sway over the skies: our longtime skyscraper rival and occasional musical obsession, Chicago. The Windy City's answer to N SKY C is the following video from Craig Shimala, Chicago-based videographer and all-around awesome guy. Craig woke up at 5 am every day in June and dutifully recorded the sunrise over his hometown. A handful of days were too cloudy or rainy to produce good footage, but the rest all made for some solid cinematography. Craig collected the footage into one video, which will allow you to experience every Chicago sunrise in the month of June 2011... at the same time. Check out "Good Morning Chicago" right here to see what I mean:
Nice work, Craig! Antoine de Saint-Exupéry would be proud.
