Add eyeglasses to the list of things made from human hair, right next to the purse, house, and soy sauce (the list, as you might guess is quite disturbing).
With the help of a plant-based bioresin to bind the hair follics together, graduates of the Royal College of Art have discovered how to turn the millions of cast off hair tufts cluttering salons throughout the UK into wearable eyeglasses. Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves call their creations "hair glasses," and their unique creations mimic a tortoiseshell design by braiding strands of blonde, black, and brown hair together in different patterns. The resulting frames are 100 percent biodegradable.
And it's for a good cause! The pair wanted to promote a green lifestyle by avoiding petroleum-based plastics and energy-intensive wire frames in their eyewear. The collection was recently on exhibit in London so it's unlikely they'd be on sale anytime soon. But who knows? It might not be long before your sunglasses are made with someone else's locks. I mean, better your glasses than your entire set of clothes, amiright?
Would you wear the hair glasses?
