The Daily Show on Jason Collins and the NBALGBT
Great piece from the Daily Show. My favorite jokes were:- "If you follow the world of sports and/or homosexuality"- Jon going nerdy with three gay wizards: Ian McKellen, Dumbledore and Jason Collins- Video cut getting Obama to say: "[Speaking for Jason] I'm still 7 foot tall and can bang with Shaq."- Jon Stewart and Jason Jones longing for the ability to make Linsanity-like puns that ended with GESPY (Gay-ESPY). In general, I found this a good piece in that it is propelled by an intellectual point (of how a non-flashy coming out is still important and impressibe) with a little light humor around it.

Is Paul Pierce Clutch?

Matt Marquez
NBA-ology

No, not the kind of clutch in the picture below.Kobe Bryant is always singled out as the most clutch player in the NBA even though researchers like ESPN.com's Henry Abbott have pretty conclusively determined that he's merely average during the biggest moments of games throughout his career, Bryant has hit 30 percent in late game situations in which a single shot can win or tie the game (the league average is about 29 percent). A new article by SI.com shines the spotlight on Paul Pierce instead, and finds that he's even less clutch than Kobe even though many see him as a big crunch time hero. As a Lakers fan, I don't like thinking of him in that way at all, but I guess some people might. As it turns out, over ten seasons Pierce hit only 23 percent (or 13 of 57) of shot attempts that could've won or tied the game in the final 10 seconds. Not very clutch then, though the author points out that Pierce's year-to-year percentages fluctuate wildly. Do you think Paul Pierce is clutch?http://nba-point-forward.si.com/2011/08/30/pierces-clutch-label-needs-to-be-challenged/?sct=nba_t11_a0

Geoff Achtenhagen: A thing to consider when looking at these stats are the level of "clutchness" - Kobe takes EVERY last shot for his team throughout the regular season....and misses many of them. But when it's the playoff, or a very big game, he delivers more consistently. It's not fair to just look at the % of last second shots made, you need to consider the actual importance of each game

Nick Holtzman: Also, I'm pretty sure that statistically Carmelo Anthony is the most clutch player in the NBA. We think of Kobe being clutch because he's hit many memorable game-winners, but he's also missed just as many, if not more, potential game winning/tying baskets

Nick Holtzman: I could care less how clutch he is. He's the worst man in the NBA. Anyone who needs help to get off the court only to come running back out 2 minutes later is a punk in my book.
