Penn Badgley, who plays "Lonely Boy" Dan Humphrey, regular paramour of Serena's (and sometimes Blair's!) on Gossip Girl, has been tapped to play the singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley in an upcoming biopic of the deceased musician, Greetings From Tim Buckley. Ologist Brett Warner wished for James Franco. Sorry, Brett.
Jeff Buckley biopic starts shooting this fall
And: Are Blake Lively and Penn Badgley back together?
More Penn Badgley news here.
The film follows the young Buckley in the days leading up to his notable 1991 appearance at his dad Tim's tribute concert. He died six years later at the age of 30. Greetings From Tim Buckley will begin shooting in New York City this August. Plot summary via The Wrap:
"Through a romance with a young woman working at the concert, he comes
to understand the father who abandoned him. Culminating in a cathartic
performance of his father's most famous song, Jeff's debut stuns the
audience and launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians
of his time."
Nice to see Badgley's movie career taking off, especially because his ex Blake Lively is cavorting around with Leonardo DiCaprio. Poor Penn was so charming in Easy A! Do you think he can pull off a role as intense as this one?
