'Risk' the Movie Has Writer

Film and TV Editor
On Jun 10, 2011

I don't know if you knew this, but when you become a father, the hospital gives you a baby and the game of Risk.  From that day on you a  required by law to love both.  It doesn't matter if you hated the game (or children) before, the second your lady gives birth something changes.  You become responsible for a human life and you enjoy the game of Risk.

When their children were older, dads of the world would slyly pull out the ancient board (seriously, is any Risk board less than 50 years old?) and try to get you into the game.  "What are you doing tonight?"  "Nothing."  "Well in that case..." "Oh sh*t, nevermind, I, uh, have a thing...to do...gotta go, BYE!"

That being said, adapting the game of Risk into a movie isn't the worst idea.  I mean, they're also making Candyland.  I'm assuming that Risk is going to be the better movie.  It's about war.  Done.  There's some inherent drama right there.  What's the drama of Candyland?  There isn't enough lollipops to go around?  Actually, scratch that, that sh*t is intense.

Anyway, they've finally settled on a screenwriter for Risk.  John Hlavin has previously written for The Shield and Underworld: New Dawn.  He also has a Western movie and a DreamWorks heist movie in the works.

It's rumored that the Risk movie will be set in present day, even though it was a Cold War centric board game.  Ugh, the Cold War is so lame, am I right?

More news on Risk (so you can tell your dad) will probably be leaking out soon...
