Stringer Bell, you guys! From HBO's The Wire! I mean, he was also in Takers and Luther but mostly he's Stringer Bell. Let's face it. And now it's official: Idris Elba has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.
The actor Idris Elba's getting mad attention lately, even running neck-and-neck with Will Smith as the lead in Quentin Tarantino's next pic, Django Unchained. Pacific Rim, incidentally, is the reason why Thor and 28 Weeks Later director del Toro had to drop out of The Hobbit, replaced by seasoned Tolkien director Peter Jackson.
Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam in a futuristic world being attacked by aliens. Charlie Day is reportedly also circling the picture:

Elba was courted by Legendary Pictures and del Toro for a supporting role in the film. He is currently filming Prometheus with Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron. He also supported in the ludicrous-looking Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, co-starring with Nicolas Cage, currently in post at Columbia. Woot.
