It's not often that a non-goalkeeper wins the MLS "Save of the Week" award, but New York Red Bulls defender and SportsOlogy favorite Tim Ream captured that honor thanks to a timely goal line clearance against the LA Galaxy that not only saved a goal, but also saved the game. The Red Bulls ended up tying the Galaxy, 1-1, but it would have been a different result had Ream not hustled back on a disastrous defensive lapse for the Red Bulls. David Beckham had placed a perfect ball over the defense to a streaking Landon Donovan, who needed only a simple touch to round Red Bulls 'keeper Bouna Coundoul. With the net apparently wide open, Donovan touched the ball ahead of him, expecting an easy goal.
But Tim Ream never stopped sprinting. Just as the ball was about to cross the line, Ream went to ground and made a sliding clearance to preserve the draw. He also won Save of the Week! Watch for yourself:
