Anyone who ever witnessed a dc Talk concert back in the ‘90s or has attended one of his more intimate solo gigs isn’t likely to forget Mr. Kevin Max—a human whirlwind of glam rock swagger, heart on his sleeve spiritual yearning, and a voice that soars and dives like a snow-white dove wearing a pink feather boa. Whether singing inspirational Christian pop with Michael and Toby in dc T, reciting his gorgeously evocative poetry, or releasing criminally overlooked albums like Stereotype Be, The Imposter, The Blood, and his latest album Cotes d’Armor (True Rebels), Kevin Max always makes a striking impression.
A fellow Michigander, Kevin has been enjoying life out of the spotlight since his old group’s 2000 dissolution. Living in Grand Rapids with his wife Amanda and their children London, Wilder, and Knightly, Max has been hard at work on Fiefdom of Angels--a graphic novel/film/music project currently in development—and Bad Omens, a super-group side project with Tony Vincent and David Larring.
I tweeted with Kevin yesterday afternoon about his years as a Christian rock superstar, his musical inspirations, family life, and his future projects.
