Before director Danny Boyle graduated to studio-sanctioned Oscar bait like the Best Picture-winning Slumdog Millionaire and this year's 127 Hours, he was making imaginative and gritty little movies about drug addicts and underground scenes. Two of the best examples of Boyle's rooting stories and themes from the darker side of English life? Shallow Grave and the acclaimed Trainspotting, the latter which catapulted star Ewan McGregor's career into mainstream features.
Now, before his upcoming gig directing the opening ceremony for next summer's Olympic Games in London, Boyle is returning to his art-house roots to film Trance, a look at an art heist gone wrong with a similar dark, sexy tone as the previously mentioned films. The thriller shoots in London and should be ready for distribution by 2013.
Not that we don't like inspirational films like Slumdog and 127 Hours, but we're kinda ready for the old, significantly more badass Boyle to return and shake Hollywood up a little bit with Trance. What about you guys?
