You may remember when Green Bay Packers lineman Johnny "Never" Jolly was arrested several weeks ago and charged with possessing enough codeine to open an amateur pharmacy. The prognosis was not good for Jolly, who had been caught with codeine in 2008. Somehow, though, Jolly arranged a deal with prosecutors that allowed him to plead guilty to the 2008 charge in exchange for having this year's charge dropped. The final sentence: five years of probation.
Jolly may have dodged a bullet, but avoiding prison time doesn't necessarily invite reformation. If only there were a life coach out there with experience in turning around troubled athletes' lives. Oh, wait... we have John Lucas, famed athlete mentor! Hang on a second... that can't be the same John Lucas who gave up on JaMarcus Russell, can it? It is the same John Lucas who quit on JaMarcus Russell! Didn't Russell have some drug issues of his own? Yes, I'm beginning to recall... what drug did he enjoy? It was CODEINE!
We wish nothing but the best to Johnny "Never" Jolly, although if he wants some real help, he might want to think about hiring a different life coach.
