Coldplay Asked To Write New Song For 2012 London Olympics?

British tabloid The Daily Mirror are reporting that Chris Martin and his Coldplay band mates have been approached by the London 2012 Olympic committee to pen an anthemic new tune to perform at the opening of next year’s games.

“Chris is at the top of the list to front the official record,” an unidentified source told the paper, “We’re pulling out all the stops to get Chris, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved too.”

Personally, I’m skeptical. Remember when we read that Amy Winehouse was definitely going to be recording the next James Bond theme song? Only to find out a week later that Mark Ronson went on record saying she was too f—ked up to even stand behind a microphone? Yeah, this feels a little bit like that. Before we know it, we’ll be hearing that Chris Martin, in fact, hates sports and is too busy brushing his teeth to write any music for the Olympics.

Who would you guys like to hear open the Olympics? (Keep in mind that The Beatles broke up forty years ago and two of them are dead.) Who are some of your favorite British artists? Hit up our comments section below with your nominations.
