Chances are your heart leapt into your throat earlier this week when you saw the "announcements" that Nickelodeon would produce new episodes of Doug, Hey Arnold!, The Angry Beavers, Rocket Power, and Rugrats; and, to a lesser extent, that Hilary Duff had signed on with Disney for a new series, Lizzie McGuire: College Life. Here's the alleged scoop:

Both of these reports are most likely false. The Nickelodeon one turned out to be an article from an Orange, CA, high school paper; the site has since pulled the article, but you can read a cached version. That was the nastier rumor of the two, since Millennials love '90s-era Nick shows and would happily latch on to any crumb of news that we'd get to see those beloved characters again.
The Lizzie McGuire one certainly looks more legitimate, but the timing is suspect; likely whoever circulated it was inspired by the California teenager's creative reporting. Though Duff appeared on Gossip Girl in 2009, according to her IMDb page, she has three movie projects currently in the works, all with 2011 release dates.
Would you watch your favorite childhood shows if they returned with new episodes, or would it just feel strange?
