After last night, I don't know who to compare Chris Bosh to: any given soccer player, or Paul Pierce. And the Pierce comparison has nothing to do with his skills on the court. During last night's Miami Heat game in Chicago against the Bulls, Chris Bosh spent a large amount of time guarding Bulls forward Carlos Boozer on defense. Halfway through the second quarter, Boozer was in the post against Bosh. Boozer pivoted in order to face the basket. In the process of his pivot, it looked for a split second as if he may have elbowed Chris Bosh in the face. Our initial reaction was that Bosh was wacked with that big ol' Alaskan elbow of Boozer's, and was knocked to the floor. But after a few replays, it was extremely evident that Boozer DID NOT TOUCH Miami's third wheel.
Bosh, pulling his best Paul Pierce acting job flung himself back to the floor, lying on the court for a few seconds holding his face as if he had been hit, in an Oscar worthy performace if I've ever seen one.
After playing on the Heat for more than half a season now, I think Bosh has come to the realization that by no means was he worthy of the contract he received, which is exactly equal to the one LeBron James got. James and Miami's other star Dwyane Wade have both been playing near an MVP level this season. They are easily two of the top five players in the NBA today. When "The Decision" took place and the Heat triumvirate came to be, everyone thought Bosh would be an equal piece of the Heat's trio, thus earning him an equal contract.
Bosh carried the Toronto Raptors on his back during his seven years there. He was their star. There's no doubt about it. But it was the Raptors, and they barely ever sniffed the playoffs during his time there let alone be a contending team. By no means, and I mean BY NO MEANS will a player of Chris Bosh's calibur ever carry a team to a championship. He went from a "superstar" in Toronto, to one of the better 3rd options the NBA has seen in recent memory. The man is now competing for a title, but in no way is he some kind of "leader" here.
Let's travel back in time to last summer when the Heat trio was introduced to the general public during a wild lights show at the American Airlines arena in Miami. While LeBron and Wade were basking in the love from the Miami fans with their arms casually crossed, Bosh was standing next to them screaming at the top of his lungs. He's never been shown love like that before. He's never been on the big stage. Wade is a Finals MVP. LeBron is a two-time regular season MVP and has at least been to the Finals. Bosh has never made it out of the first round of the playoffs. His reaction during this intro goes to show how new he is to the spotlight and how he is SO NOT A SUPERSTAR. Chris Bosh is many things: soft, a flopper, some might even go so far to call him a tag-along b*tch. But under no circumstances should Chris Bosh ever be called a superstar. Leave that to your teammates, Chris.
