Justified recap: Season 2, episode 2 - "The Life Inside"
Synopsis
Just two episodes into Season 2, Justified is already serving up stories layered thick as your Mom's lasagna. (It felt weird typing that.) The overarching plot involves the Bennett clan - malevolent matriarch Mags and her three scheming sons - and their burgeoning grasp of Harlan Country. They're already killed 14-year-old Loretta's weed farmer father and convinced her he's living elsewhere. A secondary major plot thread concerns the ever suspicious actions of reformed criminal Boyd Crowder and his tumultuous relationship with sister-in-law Ava Crowder.
And then there's Raylan's revived relationship with his ex-wfe, court reporter Winona Hawkins. And don't forget his father, Arlo, who seems to have "misplaced" 20 grand. Last, but certainly not least, there are the individual episode arcs of a procedural nature. Tonight's saw Raylan and Tim transporting, loosing, and then saving a pregnant convict from the merciless hands of human traffickers who aimed to profit off her baby.
Best Lines
RAYLAN - You kicked the man out of the house? He's on house arrest.
WINONA - By looking at your closet, one would think you're a simple man.
ART - You might wanna bring some plastic and towels for the back seat in case everything goes south.
PREGNANT CON - Hey, don't knock foster care. Look where it got me.
RAYLAN - Jess, you ever hear of a spot snipers call the apricot? It's where the brainstem meets the spine. Hit a fella there, he ain't gonna pull no trigger. Just lights out.
GARY - If there's one thing I do know, Raylan, it's selling. I can get a guy to buy a house worse that the one he's in, cost him twice as much, and have him swear it was his idea.
WINONA - I can handle that, Raylan. I can't handle silence.
Score
Great overall episode with a compelling case and major season groundwork being laid in the background. 7.5/10
