The Vampire Diaries recap: Season 2, episode 14 "Crying Wolf" (2/10/11)
We discover why exactly everyone wants the moonstone: If the vamps have it, they can walk around during the day, and the wolves will still change on the full moon. If the wolves get it, they can turn whenever they want--or not at all--and keep the vamps hiding from the sun.
Living
Stefan and Elena go up to her parents' old cabin to get away from everything, and at first it's really sweet: canoodling, Elena joking about being unable to invite Stefan in. Then Tyler and another werewolf track them down and try to kill Elena--well, the other guy does, until Tyler discovers that this was the plan all along and puts the kibosh on it. Meanwhile, Bonnie uses some witchy roofies on Luka and gets him to tell her that deal or no deal, Elijah plans to kill Elena. But Elena reveals that she doesn't expect to make it, as long as Elijah protects her friends. Tyler makes the tough decision to leave with Jules--aww, we're gonna miss him. But all this doesn't matter, because we finally got a Bonnie/Jeremy kiss!! Excellent.
Dead
The werewolves stab Alaric--thankfully, the ring saves him--and torture Damon in the hopes of finding the moonstone. Then Elijah enters, stone in hand, and murders most of the wolves, including the great one-episode character Stevie. Considering what we've learned above, though, we're not holding our breaths that Elijah's next appearance will be equally helpful.

Wrap-up: A solid episode that got me in all the emotional spots--sweet, scary, funny, somber.
