The super-appealing four-time Tony winner Audra McDonald was one of the bright spots of Grey's spinoff Private Practice, so it sucks that she's leaving after four seasons on the medical drama. However, this hasn't come out of nowhere; McDonald is a bi-coastal commuter to film her scenes on the show, and her character, Naomi, has appeared more infrequently in the last two seasons.
Now McDonald is leaving to spend more time in New York with her 10-year-old daughter Zoe, but the departure is amicable and she will be back to guest on Private Practice.
“I have spent four amazing years working with the best cast and crew on television at Private Practice. Though I am stepping away from the
series as a regular in order to spend more time in New York with my
family, I am not closing the door on Private Practice or the character, Naomi. I am beyond grateful to Shonda Rhimes, ABC, and the team behind the show.” [TVLine]
