So, as throngs of young, frigid, troubled youth such as myself gathered at dark beneath the George Washington statue at Union Square in New York City under the command of Lupe Fiasco, seven o'clock came and went, soon becoming ten after, and then twenty. As the cold became overbearing, many started to leave, until a pair of ambulances caused some sort of raucous on the corner of 14th E and University Plaza, sparking all sorts of chaos; people claiming to see Lupe, though he's currently in Australia, and all running this and that way, whooping and howling like a great retarded beast following its tail without any sense of direction or reason. Then, there were lights, and, as was requested by Lupe on his Twitter, everyone looked up:
(You'll notice my thumb for the first, oh, 15 seconds, but it's NYC, so deal with it)
As people began to climb on poles, all bantering and damning and yowling, passersby came along, believing it something of a violent protest or terrorist attack, though soon saying "Lupee, Lupee? Singer or something?" finding out that there was no spectacle at all, but simply a projection on a building. Technically, though he wasn't there in the flesh, he was performing, as you'll see clips from "The Show Goes On" music video, so, in a sense, he was there, performing. Don't argue against it.
Now, if you can't see, that is a bar code (fast-forward to about 30 seconds), and beneath it are the words "Scan With A Redlaser." I don't have a bar code scanner, so I'm not sure what came of this, and the others around me with bar code scanners were unable to do anything. My best guess was that it was maybe some kind of pre-order deal with a discount, or who knows. Maybe just bullsh*t. Somebody will post about it soon enough, though, if it was actually something scan-able.
So, what did we learn here? Well, people completely over-estimated what was going to happen, and follow each other based simply on the instinct of traveling where the crowd commands. Was worth showing up to, though.
